SILVERDALE TRANSPORT UPDATE

Postby kevin07 » Wed May 05, 2021 8:03 pm

We are no longer in the position to transport the odd box between UK & SPAIN for a low price everything has to go through customs since leaving the EU which will work out very expensive for the customer with taxes that have to be paid.

Hi Kevin

It would be helpful to know which items are now taxable and which not.

Thanks

hi Kevin

I'm weighing up if it's worth while shipping used pots/pans/kitchen equipment, vacuum cleaners, bed linen etc etc or buying new in Spain?
Are these subject to tax? If so at what rate?
What do I need to think about?

Thanks

Just found this. Would also like some clarity on this issue.

I have found the following on the web

"The exception to the duty and taxes payment on import shipments are for personal effects ( clothes, books , computers , furniture … ) by reason of change of residence . They are non-taxable and no need to pay duties and taxes if you provide that the age of each is equal or greater than 6 months, we recommend to include invoices to prove this to the inspections agents and avoid surprises"

Thanks for the reference above given to the article on expatnetwork.

Would need to have a shipping company able to handle the paperwork and to provide guidance on how to go about all this.

Question is - Is this Silverdale?

Experience of anyone who has been through this would be most helpful.

There may well also no doubt be differences that apply to EU citizens and to residents transferring from UK.

Thanks again

I found these previous posts of relevant interest

"Hi Cate
If you are using a commercial haulier as opposed to a DIY transport your haulier will present all the necessary declarations with a TOR no which shows your belongings are being transported because of "change of primary residence" and therefore you should not be charged iva. However from what I,ve read you are supposed to transfer your stuff within 3months of gaining residency. I would recommend you contact a haulier ASAP to verify if you are time constrained to avoid the iva. I can recommend Wiseguys removals (Based Alicante), never used them, but they are the only company out of 5 requests for info I put out recently regarding transporting goods after Brexit.
We have done several ferry visits with our own van in the past without any beaurocratic involvement, drive on, drive off-perfect. Now I discover from the stories re. the hauliers having nightmares since January getting goods through customs, we are in for a very difficult time. We are not a business, just individuals, non residents who are trying to declutter our large family home with sentimental items perfect for our Spanish home, yet will have to pay 21%iva because we, re non residents and we now need to employ customs handlers. Hope you get sorted even if you have to shift your items to Spain early and store there until you have your permanent home. I still have lots more to research. Hope this helps,
Regards Pauline

"If only you had transported your belongings before 1/1/21 your courier cost would have been a lot less too and no itemising every item either, no customs declarations either.
Not enough info on this was ever made an issue of unlike the 90 day rule thrown down our throats every day. I only wish I, d known. I had read the Gov. UK travel changes and how it was mainly directed at commercial companies but not individuals."

Hello all, I’ve been reading the threads on this topic with great interest! We are completing on a villa hopefully by October. We will not permanently live in Spain until we retire in 2024. What we are hoping to do is this year move half of our complete household belongings into the villa (to make it cost effective hiring a removal van etc as we’re doing the move ourselves) then the remaining stuff in 2024 when we permanently move there. Just before we retire to Spain we will apply for permanent residence. I have been trying to find out about the whole 21% tax issue as I nearly had a nervous breakdown the first time I read it!!!!!

I will not have any new items the both times we move. How on earth can I provide invoices/proof for every item that we take that it is older than 6 months when all of the items are years old? That’s the bit I am REALLY concerned about. I don’t want any financial surprises and also want to ensure we are doing everything properly. It all gets very confusing for me sometimes!

I’d be very grateful to read any posts after anyone has actually gone through the process please.

Thank you everyone..... this platform is so helpful and beneficial.

Hi Trishetta
Suggest you look at the Wiseguys Removals web-site. They are based in Alicante and seem to be on top of what is involved.
Customs declarations cost given as €150 presumably per load. Not sure if this is to the Authorities or to the removal firm for the extra clerical work involved.
Hiring a self drive van may be a good option for you with travel by ferry to Spain.. There are threads on this. Doing it that way may be easier and involve less intensive checking.
Please keep us all up-dated on how you get on. Thanks
