NIE VALID FOR LIFE OR EXPIRE?

Hi,

I have an NIE from some time ago from the Canaries.

When looking online I see a lot of references to the fact the NIE is valid for life, that only the certificate has an expiry of 3 months.

I have been reading through a lot of facebook groups and see several references to the fact that although an NIE is valid for life, it can become inactive. Is that correct? If so, is there anywhere I can check online to see the current status of my NIE?

How do I check if my NIE is valid?
You can send an SMS to the following number: 600124377 (the SMS is free of charge). The SMS should contain the word "NIE" and your NIE number (eg NIE X00000111L). Keep in mind you need to leave a space between "NIE" and your current NIE number.19 Jan 2022
