Obtaining NIE in UK
Obtaining NIE in UK
by jimmi » Thu Apr 26, 2018 2:08 pm
Hi All,
I'm confused. My wife and I are planning on searching for and buying a home in the general area or possibly outlying areas of Quesada, nothing definitive yet. OK, before i go any further please remember there is no such thing as a daft question.....well maybe there is an exception to every rule.....be gentle!
We would like to get ahead of the game and apply for our NIE from the Spanish Consulate in Edinburgh with the view to opening a bank account, most likely with Sabadell, before we arrive in Spain, I'm sure many others have done this.
Now, this is where I am confused (doesn't take much the wife is whispering in the background) the Consulate website states:Please do not apply through this Consulate if your reason is one of the following:
1.You intend to live in Spain. Once you are in Spain, you must register with the local authorities where you intend to live and apply at the town hall for the NIE number.
Also on the NIE application for it asks for your address, does this need to be a Spanish address, becauseat the moment we don't have one or can it be a UK address?
I'm in the UK with not a lot to do at the moment, other than dreaming of blue sky's, and would rather get as much of the bureaucracy out of the way so that when we arrive we can start our search in earnest.
If anyone one has a better idea or if i can learn from others experiences, all thoughts would be much appreciated.
Enjoy the sun.
Jim

Hi Jim
Proberly easier to get NIE when your here ...there's no rush to be honest ...one way services in quesada can sort it for you when your here for €50 a person.....including making the appointment, taking you to police station and speaking the language ...assuming you don't
Also you don't need a NIE to open a bank account ...just your passport

Hi, My wife and I did our NIE in Edinburgh prior to coming to Spain in November 2017.
No translator was required and all was easy, Just remember to take the exact money with you. As there is no change at the Embassy.
We were fortunate as we managed to do the tattoo and festival at the same time.

Jimmi...
You do not need an NIE to open a Spanish bank account.

Hi Jim, only bought last year so still quite fresh, we found it best to do the search first. once you find the perfect place, and you will, you’ll find the rest easy to do using your appointed solicitor, in fact a lot will just take a POA and then your hand and basically walk you through everything you need from NIE to bank account. We found Interealty in Benijofar great! Good luck and enjoy
