Padron & SIP
Padron & SIP
by TonTri » Sun Oct 28, 2018 8:24 am
We are here for the next 5 months and are planning to sign on the padron and get temporary SIP cards next week. I've been reading a few old posts on the subject but just wanted a bit of clarification:
1) Do we need to go to Rojales Town Hall or can we get them at Quesada Town Hall? Are there any specific days/times we need to go? (I'm aware that at Rojales we need to go upstairs for the Padron and downstairs for the SIP cards).
2) Do they speak English as our Spanish is extremely limited?
3) What do we actually ask for, do we just say "we want to sign on the padron" and "we would like temporary SIP cards"?
TIA

We just got our Padron but we are not in Rojales - we took our passports and a suma (council tax bill) and although they didn’t speak any English it was processed easily there and then We stay for 2 / 3 months a time but are not residents so I didn’t think we could get a temporary SIP or am I wrong? Is it something that just gives you easier access to your local doctor for everyday medical treatment if needed?

Rojales town hall. The municipal town hall in Quesada doesn't do the padron.
Upstairs for the padron and then downstairs by the lift for the lady who does the SIP cards. She's only there a couple of mornings a week so ask at reception and they will tell you when she is there.
And, yes, they speak English.
You need your EHIC to get the SIP cards. The temporary SIP cards are based on your EHIC and it's just to stop you having to complete the forms every time you need treatment. You have to pay for any medication prescribed.

Thank you Marcliff (and Cheflady and Ian2009). We will go to Rojales Town Hall one morning next week as we live in upper La Marquesa area so that is our local council.

I believe you can get them for 1,3 or 6 months.

Am I right in thinking then that by presenting my EHIC card and Padron I can obtain a SIP card which allows access to all medical services, not just emergency cover? When I visited the Dona Pepa medical centre recently I was told that the EHIC only covers emergency treatment. Had I been in possession of a temporary SIP presumably there would have been no issue.
