Registering as a resident in Spain

laurabw wrote:Hi thanks once again to all responses. Great advice about the car.

The reason I asked about the pension being taxed in Spain and the car changes as part of my forum question of residencia is that I have been told by various people that when I get my residencia then the tax and car registration come into force so NO it is not a separate issue at all.

Regarding the tax issue I do realise that I need professional advice but as this is a general forum it was a general idea of what other people recommended that I wanted - I thought that was this forum was all about

Hi laurabw,

Yes it is what this forum is all about - I'm sure that the comment regarding taking professional advice is only meant as another piece of friendly advice alongside all the other general help on the forum.

Hope you get your Residencia sorted soon, without any problems.

One thing you will, I am sure, find here .... if you haven't already is that if you ask 5 people you will get half a dozen bits of advice, sometimes totally conflicting :)
My 2 cents is to get yourself a tax adviser, and for most other questions, contact Help Vega Baja, who have leaflets on just about everything you might want to know! Their offices are in San Miguel, and their phone number is 966 723 733. It would also IMO be beneficial to pay their small membership subscription (about 12E/yr for a couple) as they have a 24hr helpline which i have found invaluable.
Online forums are useful for getting general advice and recommendations, but do please treat advice on serious, 'professional' matters with a huge lump of salt.
(My mother used to say "Sift it through a ladder .... what sticks to the rungs is possibly worth following!" :D )

One reason is that each 'region' of Spain tends to have its own rules ... the law in Murcia is different from Alicante.

Good luck!

VERY diplomatic answer as usual Jan.

Another piece of advice is if you come onto the forum asking for answers, don't suddenly take issue with the people who take the trouble to respond and try to help.
OBVIOUSLY, car tax is a whole different issue to personal income taxes!! :x :x

This question/issue has now been answered on another similar topic - That's fine but just want to direct members to it, so we don't confuse by having two ongoing topics with a similar question and answers.

Here's the link to it:

Residencia

sorry but registering as resident in spain is after 90 days, to be a tax resident is after 184 days , the 2 are not connected.

if you have a state pension and a private pension the you must declare it in spain

the personal tax allowance is 6150 euro...if your partner is below pension age and does not have an income....Get Married...this will give you a further 3400 euro allowance...mortgage payments or rent can reclaim up to 15% per month.

i have a crown pension which is not declared in spain , my wife has a private pension plus state pension... tax bill 200 euros

Am I missing something? - What is this 'after 90 days'? Anyone can stay in Spain for 90 days - They don't have to become Resident!

If you spend more than 90 days at any one time you can apply for residenceia if you want to.

If you stay for more than 6 months you must take residencia in theory.

Cheers

:text-thankyouyellow:

Thanks for explaining scubydoo - I didn't want anybody being confused and thinking they have to apply for Residencia after being here for 90 days.

yes jan as i posted....after

after 90 days in spain you are obliged to to be entered in the foreigners register whether you do or not is up to you as it is very difficult to enforce and there many thousands of *non-resident*, residents. After 6 months or 184 days you are automatically considered a tax resident.

Note there is no * Residencia * for eu citizens in spain
