Residencia to non-residencia
Residencia to non-residencia

Hypothetical question.
If a UK national, under the official retirement age who had moved to Spain & received residency status, decided that he/she/they wanted to revert back to non-residency status for whatever reason, could this be done & how would one go about it? This was one of those deep & meaningful pub discussions that nobody could give a positive answer to.
Opinions of others are very welcome. Cheers.

You fill in the same form (EX18) and complete the bottom marked "Baja". Of course, you'd have to see your fiscal rep as well to get you taken off the tax return and start paying the non-res imputed income tax.
I assume you'd then have to leave Spain within 6 months (it's not residency anymore, it is simply a register of foreign EU nationals residing in Spain) - if you Baja it then you would get a certificado de non-residencia and would lose padron and health benefits.
You'd also have to inform your bank and would then have to pay for the fiscal non-residency certificates and start paying them the fees they charge non-residents.

Cheers marcliff. If I can memorise that word for word I'll maybe sound like I know what I'm talking about. lol
Just a point though. I have been 'resident' for around 18 months now. I am obviously on the padron which benefits the community but not me personally and receive zero health care unless paid for in full. Sip card is non renewable according to the lady under the stairs & my S1 has expired. This is how the discussion in the pub started. Do you know something I may not know? Cheers.

Some of them might not apply to you but:
Get married
Put children in school
Enrol on the Valencia Healthcare system if under retirement age after being here a year
Enrol in classes at the town hall (anything from Spanish classes to computer lessons)
Take out HP eg to buy a car
Get a job or register self employed
Vote in local elections.
Regarding the healthcard. If the S1 has run out, you can get a temporary SIP card valid for 6 mohths if you have an EHIC. This can be renewed and will allow you access to a GP. You'll have to pay full cost for prescriptions, though. We had a thread on this a little while back and several memberssaid that is what they do.
(Me being an oldie means I get a permanent one)
Without being on the register of EU foreigners means you should not stay here more than 3 months at a time for a maximum of 6 months a year (although I do know there are many who ignore that).

Thanks again marcliff. I'm going to have to write that lot down & dissect it in the pub amongst the resident panel of 'experts'.

Yes, so did I until recently when I went to renew it because the 6 months was up. Told me it was now non-renewable because my
form S1 had an expiry date which had passed. Left me without any sort of medical cover unless I pay. I have never been one for
frequenting doctors waiting rooms so I'm not unduly worried at the moment. However, one never knows when fate is going to step in.

Yes, the permanent healthcard has run out like it did for some neighbours of mine (it was valid for 2 years under the system which the UK government has now stopped). However, they renewed their padron and were issued a temporary healthcard on the strength of the padron and the EHIC (issued by UK). They are able to book GP appointments, go to the hospital etc but have to renew the temporary card every 6 months. Different to the one they got under the S1 system.
And that's with the lady under the stairs at Rojales as well.
