I'm trying to find out how to obtain a Social Security number. Also, how much an individual would need to pay in to the system for health care if they are doing casual work, ie no contract.

If you have been a resident for 1 year, you can apply for the Convenio Especial (might have the name slightly wrong). It is 60 euros a month. We have private and pay a bit more than that.
