Hi jud1,

:text-welcomewave:
Welcome to the forum.

I don't know if it's the same as getting a Residencia when you have to renew it but there is some information on this Topic here:
residency-in-spain-padron-residencia-passport-advice-f112/residencia-t2129.html

Hopefully someone else may have a better answer to your question soon.

There seems to be two unanswered questions on this topic now - Can anyone help please? :

1. Does anyone know what happens when the residencia has expired?

2. If you're a resident and want to move back to the UK where and whom do you have to notify in Spain?

Firstly, so-called residencia never expires. You don't have to renew the forms anymore if you have the green card, only the old white paper from some years ago. If you have the old A4 white paper, you had to renew it every 5 years. Now, once you change it for the green card, it stays with you forever with no renewal date.
To cancel the residencia, you fill in the same form at the National Police Station that you used to get it in the first place. You just have to fill in the bottom of the form under "Baja" and give a reason (eg, moving to UK).

As Marcliff says it does not expire.
An alternative to the suggestion above is to use your usual tax representative , who will advise the authorities, who remove you from the taxation system, and more importantly from the health system if you are on it. Too many people return without closing off the administration system, which is hard enough for Spain to control without unnecessary claims from the UK for people no longer living in Spain. The subsidy from the UK is quite significant for all UK residents in claiming full health system requirements.

Thank you everyone for all the helpful info above. I did think that the Fiscal Rep would be able to sort this or at least give accurate advice. I wouldn't be without one and are always amazed that any Brits or other foreigners choose to 'go it alone' where tax issues are concerned in Spain but many do!
