Where to obtain certificate of residence?
Where to obtain certificate of residence?
by RobertV » Mon Oct 21, 2019 2:00 pm
We have recently moved permanantly to Quesada and have now registered on the Padron in Rojales.
But on reading the instructions with our S1 papers it states that we need to also obtain a certificate of residence from our local police station before registering our S1. So just wondering where our local police station is. Is it in Quesada or Rojales? And also where is our local INSS office?
We would appreciate any advice with regard to all this.
Many thanks.

You cannot apply for residency at a local Police Station, I'm afraid. It has to be a National Police station or a foreigners' office with access to the National Police.
There are national and foreign offices in Elche, Alicante, Orihuela, Torrevieja etc but none in the immediate area.
It's also not very simple. You need to make an appointment online and fill in a form EX18 and, if you have an S1, take that with you (make sure you have taken photocopies first) plus bank statements to show you can support yourself and some of the National Police stations require you prove payments made to a Spanish bank over the last 3 months.
You will also need to take someone who speaks Spanish.
Might I suggest you look around for a good company who does it all for you. It will cost you, though.
There is One Way service in Quesada and Abajo solicitors in Torrevieja who will do it all for you.
Look at the Citizens Advice Bureau Spain for full details on residency.
Sorry, it's not just as simple as turning up and asking like it was for the padron.
INSS office in Torrevieja but there is a lady at the Rojales town hall who will help you to get your healthcard.

Yes, as Marcliff says above, easier to arrange it through a 'Gestor' or a Lawyer. I would recommend doing it through SGM Abogados who are based in Benijofar. Here's a clip of their recent facebook post about the new appointments that have been made available for UK citizens. If you contact SGM they will arrange it all for you, tell you what documents you need to bring etc. They all speak excellent English and it is an English chap, Wayne, who takes you to the appointments. It is not cheap, about 130 or 140 euros per person to do it through them but they are reliable, have never heard of anyone being let down by them, ever, and they make it easy. TBH I would not recommend trying to do it yourself, much better through an expert intermediary. Also, I would not 'hang about' or delay in seeking your residency, not while Brexit is ongoing, better to be safe than sorry.
