A good tip - Sun protection cream - How long will it keep?
A good tip - Sun protection cream - How long will it keep?

Hi,
I have just found out something that may help those of us who keep sun creams in Spain and need to know how long the cream is effective for. Thought it would be a good tip to pass on:
Some of you may know this but on the back of the bottle is an emblem/picture that often looks like a jar with an open lid with a little number inside it. This is kind of like the 'use by date' but in months from the time of opening. For instance 18, 24 etc.
I have often been wary of using old suncream as there doesn't ever seem to be a 'use by date'.
Lots if us automatically buy new bottles of sun lotion each year, or use the old stuff, not really knowing if we should but there's often no need to as most open bottles can still be good for up to two years. The number you should find on the back of the bottle in the jar emblem is a Period After Opening (PAO) number.
The British Skin Foundation says: "Sun tan lotions may, given time, start to separate and become less effective, so it's always worth noting down on the bottle when it was first opened."
It also always recommends storing your sun lotion in a cool, dark place, and avoiding leaving it in direct sunlight when it's in use but we all do that...don't we ?
