Attempted burglary: how to secure my home?
Attempted burglary: how to secure my home?
by jankw » Wed Jun 10, 2015 4:44 pm
Someone tried to break in to our home while my daughter and her friend was on holiday last night. Can anyone recommend a good locksmith and electrician to fit security lights? We already have shutters security grilles on windows and outside doors and a gate to the front of the building. Is there any other tips. This has made me feel really uneasy as we dont move into the property until later this year and Im worried out about my daughter now.
thanks
Jan

Hi,
Sorry to hear this, it is worrying. If it's a locksmith you need then David Beck has been recommended a number of times on the forum - His details are here : locksmiths-in-quesada-and-the-surrounding-areas-f150/david-beck-locksmith-lock-key-t7058.html
Both these electricians(details on the links below) have been independently recommended on the forum a few times:
electricians-in-quesada-and-the-surrounding-areas-f152/alan-clarke-electrician-quesada-t5969.html
electricians-in-quesada-and-the-surrounding-areas-f152/electrical-air-conditioning-solutions-steve-birkett-t6409.html
You may have already seen this but we have some security tips on here:
Security tips for moving into your new property in Quesada
I expect you will get lots of tips for security but the main thing I told my 'children' was to always lock the front gate and grilles whether inside or outside, even when just sitting in the garden.

Hi,
Please don't let the worry of this, hopefully 'one-off' incident, spoil your enjoyment of your new home. We have had a holiday home in Quesada for more than 10 years and in the early days when we were in the throes of the buying process I heard a couple of stories of break-ins and it made me a bit paranoid when we moved in. In some ways that was good as it motivated us to get all the security put in place quickly, like you have, and not become complacent but over the years, I realised that the small community mind-set in Spain and the 'jungle drums'/Chinese whisper type information can make some incidents blow out of all proportion.
We live in a suburb of London and these things, no doubt, happen on a regular basis around us but we hardly hear about them because they are so common place and since coming to Quesada, numerous times over the years, I have come to the conclusion that Quesada is a very safe place, as long as normal precautions are taken. Many of the burglaries or thieving we hear about is opportunist and the opportunity is often too easy, with doors/grilles/ gates left open. We would never leave our front doors open in the UK but sadly some people do in Spain.
Just take the normal security precautions that you would in the UK and enjoy your new home. Quesada and the surrounding areas are lovely places.

Just another little tip to add to the others:
If you're out the back (even if briefly) lock your door/grill at the front and vice versa.
People will come calling asking for (amongst others) money for a childrens charity. Refuse all offers.

Door to door charity collecting is illegal in Spain , Spain does not officially recognise charity shops and organisations that call themselves charities .!!!!!!!!

Really camionpilot why then do charities have to be licensed? I agree that it may well be illegal to door to door canvas but all the charities I am aware of - especially the ones who have shops in Quesada are registered and licensed!
