Carjacking on A7 yesterday
Carjacking on A7 yesterday
by Brightonsuperwomn » Mon Nov 27, 2017 9:34 am
We'd just left the toll booth on the A7 just about to go to Elche when a blonde woman in a car with 2 men waved us dawn saying we had a dangerous leak from the back of the car - well, actually, they said "peligroso leaky leaky". Whilst my husband was with the woman looking under the boot of the car a tall thin man approached the passenger side - he had a map in his left hand which was partially covering his right hand. I thought it was fishy so called my husband to get in the car. As we drove away I commented that at least they didn't steal anything but, sadly they had got my husbands wallet with all his cards, I'd, medical, etc. So BEWARE THE LEAKY LEAKY MEN!

This is a well known trick everywhere ...So sorry to hear you were caught out and robbed but it's often been said on this forum and other places to not stop for anyone (except for the police /police car).
There are quite a few known 'tricks' like this to get drivers to stop and it isn't always easy to ignore them and us British are generally a kind and trusting lot but the more this type of thing is publicised the less people will get caught out and just drive on and/or not get out of their locked car.
Thank you for posting this.

They chased us for about 2 miles yesterday! I eventually did a 360 on a roundabout and came up behind them and started driving agressively giving them no doubt that I had sussed their game, which made them head off towards Elche.
NEVER EVER STOP! UNLESS YOUR CAR IS ON FIRE OR AN ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON: CHANCES ARE NOTHING IS WRONG!
Similarly if someone comes up rapidly from behind and overtakes and pulls in sharp: expect them to slam on the brakes to try and make you ram them.
If you are ever in a situation and have to stop: lock the door locks, only open your window a fraction if someone approaches and keep the vehicle in gear with your foot on the clutch, ready to go in the opposite direction if you need to get away fast.
Hope you manage to sort new cards etc and be careful: always treat everyone you dont know with caution and be aware when you are driving.

Thank you everyone for your responses - this was the first time we had driven beyond our local area and we were unaware of this sort of thing. We stopped bank cards as soon as it happened and because we got a police report straight away we have been able to replace doctors card, bus pass, etc immediately. In the words of The Who 'won't get fooled again". Actually, this is a great forum for this type of thing and many thanks to Jan for setting it up.

Just out of curiosity is your car on English plates or Spanish, I wonder if they pick on foreign registered cars?

Where was the wallet? Sorry to say but making it easy for them. I see so many wallets in back pockets. Might just as well give your money and card straight to them. Cuts out the risk of violence.
