Conman around the Merca Benjofar Chinese shop
Conman around the Merca Benjofar Chinese shop

Watch for this car and its male owner in Quesada and around the area, especially at the Chinese bazaar next to Mercadona. (He's banned from being in Mercadona car park)
The guy is about 5'10", unshaven, with a stocky build and looks gypsy in appearance.
He approaches people showing a clipboard, asking for a name and phone number or address for charity collections. He the asks for money.
It's a total con and he isn't hard of hearing or speech impaired and certainly not skint either if he drives a BMW 5 series.
I stopped him conning someone today and he hurled a load of perfect abuse in Spanish at me. So much for being speech impaired. He topped it off with spitting at me, which was delightful. Turns out he's "spitting impaired" because he ended up soaking all his front instead. I wasn't upset..
Please be careful, he's not a nice thief this one..

For the abuse and spitting, not worth the effort. The police won't be bothered about that. For the con man activities, he's been doing it for ages and even got himself banned from Mercadona, so I'm sure the police are well aware of who he is.

Just in from the Chinese supermarket on the Benijofar - Quesada road...just too late to stop a woman giving the man 10 euro...my attention was drawn as he was trying to get more money from her. I said she should not give him anything and that it is not licenced...he is begging using a clip board and getting people to sign. He walked away and she said I will not do it next time. Be aware he is still about.

Sadly this type of scam rears it's head regularly,if it ever goes away. We were caught 11 years ago when a guy was knocking on doors of our newly built urbanisation, before we all had locked decent gates and said he was collecting for a children's charity. Apparently he caught a lot of our neighbours too. They know where your guard is down.
Now we don't even go to the gate and ignore them whereever we see them. No need to feel you have to be polite. Say nothing and shake head and walk away. No need to let them know your nationality however persistent they are. They are criminals!

Good call Jan. Absolutely no need to be polite to these people. They are common thieves, nothing better and their actions take money from real and deserving causes. They are scum bags.

The thieving sod is still there. 3pm this afternoon. He banged on our car window but was given short shrift by us, not in time to warn an English couple he had already conned.
