Neighbourhood Watch warning!

Neighbourhood Watch warning!

Postby benji » Wed Jul 20, 2016 6:54 pm

Message from Pat Phillips of Neighbourhood Watch:

Incident just happened this minute 5pm, 20 July in Ave de Espana, Lo Pepin... My neighbour Paul was sitting at his table in the living room when a woman opened his door and walked straight in without knocking.
She had to open the garden gate and walk up a path. She was at least middle aged and he thinks Spanish. He told her to leave and saw her off the premises. There was another woman waiting for her on the pavement. They walked down the street and got into a red car D815BSK .
There was a similar incident reported on 23 June in Ave de Aeroporto.
THese women are very bold and opportunist.

To Everybody. Do get a gate that locks and keep it locked. Always lock your grills when indoors. Tell your visitors as well. Don't go out and leave downstairs windows open even with grills. Things haven't changed over 20 years but they are opportunist thieves. Keep safe.

Thanks for this warning Benji. As Pete31 says, this has always been a problem but it really helps to remind people to lock gates and grills at all times. We would never leave our front door open or unlocked in the UK but it can be seen so often in Spain and it doesn't take a second to lock a grill and gate and get used to doing this, even if sitting or working out in the garden. This is what grills are for and why hot countries have grills and have always had them.
It was so lucky that this theif was noticed before she stole anything.

As has been said these people are brazen and just don't care. They will go on to the next easy target of an unlocked gate and open door.
Please take note everyone and as reminded above tell your visitors too.

If we are at the front of the house, the back is locked and vice versa. That´s been our rules for us and our visitors over the last 28 years. As has been said, nothing has changed, the opportunists have always been there.
These people are good at what they do, it´s their job. Keep ´em peeled.

Another message from Pat Phillips of Rojales Neighbourhood Watch

A further incident reported from Eve, this time from Benimar 2 Calle Zafiro.
These women are moving about or there is a gang of them.

" The same thing happened to me yesterday at around 3pm. Walked straight in to the porch luckily I had seen her and went to meet her.
She immediately turned round and walked out and as she left she turned to look at me. She was South American and dressed strangely.I was too gob smacked to say anything unfortunately ."

I know its going to be a pain but we need to fit a lock to our garden gate and a bell for visitors. Very unsettling when people we dont know have access to our garden. Put this on your "TO DO" list.
The least we can all do is to make sure we dont leave our purse/wallet lying about to be picked up easily. Please put them away in a cupboard or even further in the house.. like a bedroom.
best wishes
Pat
