Pepper Spray

Pepper Spray

Postby DS100 » Thu Oct 18, 2018 3:01 pm

Hi all, After a recent spate of muggings in our area myself and some of my friends have decided that we would like to carry pepper spray for our own protection. Does anyone know where it can be bought? I would appreciate any help

Your location shows Cabo Roig. Is it really getting that bad that you need to carry pepper spray?
Anyway, there is a DIY near Burger Queen on the seafront in Torrevieja and they sell it. I assume it will be the < 5% CS spray that is legal in Spain.

We have a spray to secure our small dogs from large uncontrolled dogs off the lead.
We saw the effectiveness of the spray last year year when a dog attacked a smaller dog on a lead, the spray stoped the attack immediately.
We were sold on the device, but needed some confirmation it was legal, a friend had been to the Guardia and had that confirmation.

The shop is called Brasil and it's in Calle Rambla Juan Mateo Garcia. Think it's around 12 euros. I've got a CS spray which I bought quite legally in France out of a Mr Minute shoe repairers.

Thank you all for your replies. A lady friend ended up with blacked eyes and broken ribs due to a bag snatcher and isn't the only one. The bag isn't the issue. A lot of my female friends who walk home want extra peace of mind

I live in lomas de cabo roig and there have been 2 here another in villa martin another in punta prima. sometimes they act like a jogger and then suddenly launch a mugging another I believe more than one person involved. I know a couple were mugged recently

Pepper spray won’t help in this situation, unless you carry it in your hand, with your finger on the button at all times. Even then, you’ll probably find yourself flat on your back with the pepper spray nowhere to be seen before you know what’s happened.

The real answer is to wear a different type of bag, or wear it in a different way - across the body, under a jacket for example. Or don’t use a bag at all.

These people target the easy pickings, people who don’t take precautions, or who make it appear that s bag is well worth taking.

There’s plenty of great advice around about how to minimise the chances of having your bag snatched, and I doubt that any of the reputable sources of information will reccomend pepper spray as one of the best approaches.

Pete.

Hi Pete, For me and my friends it isn't about the bag. They can have it if it's a choice between us and a bag. It's more like if the mugging became something more unsavoury. If I buy one I would carry it in my hand ready for use but only when I felt necessary. I certainly don't want to go through life thinking everyone is out to get me. 9 times out of 10 I feel perfectly safe
