ROBBERIES DONA PEPA II

Good afternoon everyone,

I am President of Rojales Neighbourhood Watch and unfortunately at this time of the year incidents like this increase and mainly affect those over here on holiday.

We constantly advise people on how to stay safe and hold quarterly meetings in Quesada.

I have 48 coordinators in the 03170 Rojales area and of course we always need more people to help look out for each other and communicate incidents etc to their friends and colleagues.

The more of us there are the more chance we have of reporting suspicious vehicles and characters to the police, who, incidentally we work closely with.

If you would like more information go to our website www.rojalesnw.info My details and those of my Secretary Helen Tudor are on there and you can apply to become a coordinator. There is of course no charge.

This incident has already been reported to me by one of our coordinators. With the permission of the folk who have been affected by this I would like to circulate their experience to all my coordinators and Neighbourhood Watch in Spain our umbrella group.

Regards

David East

Liz, re David's reply above, I have PM'd and emailed you, regarding giving your permission to Rojales Neighbourhood watch, to publish your sad story. Please reply directly to Pat Phillips, whose address I have included, and to whom I copied your firstpost.
Thanks

Hi Liz,

Going by all the information you have posted there is no 'real' excuse for either Lloyds or Sabadell to not refund you. The credit card will (or should) be refunded straight away anyway but the other two banks are obviously 'trying it on' in the hope that you will not fight the transactions - Amazing to hear that so many people are complacent and let them get away with it!

We have had a couple of fraudulent credit card transactions over the years and each one was treated fairly and refunded onto our card in the first instance and investigated afterwards, but it is different with credit cards. It is well known that banks take longer to refund with debit card fraud for some reason.

I hope you get it sorted as quickly as possible. Please let us know how you get on.

Jan.

David...not a problem our story being told...if it can help other Owners or Holiday makers from going through what we went and are still going through.

My upset has now turned to anger especially how the Bank spoke to my husband yesterday he is 69 years of age and has banked with Lloydstsb since he was 15 and has never been overdrawn and for some person on the line to say he has never heard of them using a Pin. No. without the owners collusion with them he evidently hasnt been at the bank long. When you read the newspapers articles it is quite scary. We also had our card cloned last year when we were at Dona Pepa we got back to the UK and noticed 16 transactions from Arrecife (didnt know where that was at the time) but the bank did refund those so I cannot fault them. But for Lloydstsb to say we were in cahoots more or less with the Robbers is absolutely despicable and in the letter tomorrow I will be telling them so.

Will keep you informed of how it all goes and all keep safe and lock those doors and grilles and dont trust anybody only the people you know!!!

I do feel so sorry for you. A really terribly story. It is bad enough to feel that someone has "invaded" your house and rummaged through your things, without the added hassle that you had/are having from the banks and airline.
You stress levels must have gone through the roof.

I have a house in Doña Pepa (1), and since reading your story I have told all my friends to be on their guard. I have a very low wall all around my property, and as a result it feels as if I am in Fort Knox most of the time! I just used to leave my rings etc on the dressing table, and all the paperwork/documents and passports in a drawer, but after my friend, on another urb, had a break-in I bought safes, which are bolted to the floor, and a secure place for electrical equipment.

I wish you both a speedy resolution.

Sounds like a nightmare scenario, but you have shared your experience and might have saved someone else from having to live it.

So sorry for you both and thank you for bothering to write about it. We will now make some changes we might not have made. Good luck for the future.
