Rojales Neighbourhood Watch
Rojales Neighbourhood Watch

Thanks to Sue for telling us about another disturbing event.
"Just to let you know that a member of our community in Calle Estocolmo was burgled tonight. This took place at approximately 8pm when the people living there had gone out to do a bit of Christmas shopping. The house was well lit from street lamps and the thieves had pulled out the grill from one of the windows on the ground floor. The house was completely ransacked. The couple could hardly speak from the shock of finding the house in such a state. They were renting the house and did not have any contents insurance. Neighbours did not hear a thing.

Sorry to hear this - Sometimes rental properties are not set up well for security as the owners unfortunately may not think about it that much as they are not the ones living there.
However as for contents insurance it's a fact, even in the UK, that it is up to the renters to provide their own insurance for contents. It's a small price to pay and isn't that expensive to get a decent cover.
We had renters near us who with permission from the owners were allowed to fit their own extra security measures such as alarms, window locks and extra door locks - They wanted to be as safe as possible while living there and the owner was happy to reduce the rent each time that the renter put in new locks etc to cover the cost.
It is wise to avoid a rental however nice it is if it doesn't have security grills. Landlords should provide obvious security like grills.
Here's a link for any new owners or renters to help with their security:
