Has anyone had any dealings with any English speaking people at the Ministry of Taxes?
I have looked at their website and it doesn’t look easy to make contact.
We are not residents so are mainly in the U.K.
They sent me a notice which a neighbour kindly took in / scanned and e-mailed to me.
Then 2-weeks later they took €41 out of my bank account.
An accountant has told me it is for non residents tax for 2017.
I have my receipts for 2017 - stamped by Caixabank and prepared by Spanish Tax Forms.
I don’t want to engage an accountant to chase up €41 as it will cost me more than that - but I am a little miffed that they can “take money from my bank account” without me be given time or the opportunity to provide my receipts and then ask “what’s the problem?”

Who took the money out of your account? Was it the hacienda (tax office) or was it the bank? It seems a little low for non-resident income tax but about right for the bank to prepare and send your non-resident status certificate which is due every 2 years.
When completing a tax declaration there is a box which requires your bank details so they can take the money out plus another box to say if you want it taken in one or two payments.
If IBI then SUMA (the agency responsible for taking municipal taxes) will have had a direct debit set up by your solicitors which enables them to take the money out each year.

Marcliff - thanks for your reply.
I bought our first ever property in Quesada in late March 2017 - so when we paid the non residents tax we paid an “apportioned” amount as advised by the company who prepared the forms. I did wonder if they expected the whole year to be paid by me?
The actual deduction was an A.e.a.t Embargoes which I believe means they “freeze” your account if necessary but in my case they took the money as there was more than enough funds to do so.
I can see the reference to 2017 and then the words Recargos Autoliquid - twice - with an amount next to each one totalling €41 - which I think means self assessment? Each amount is under a heading of “Period” with a different reference number so it seems to be 2 periods in 2017.

It sounds like unpaid taxes for the year 2017 and they have charged you interest (or fees).
The recargos autoliquido refer to the interest for the delay. Recargos meaning surcharge.
Is the property in joint names? If so, then the charge would be for each person on the deeds.
How much was your 2018 non-resident income tax?

Hi - the property is in joint names but we sold the property after 11 months - so I have not had a full year. Having read up on Abaco Advisers website - I think this is possibly IBI - some sort of recalculation - maybe when we purchased some figures calculated by the agent were wrong.
Either way we are over in 6 weeks so I will go and see a local accountant to where we live as I would prefer to get to the bottom of it - to stop it happening again. Thanks for your help.
