Have any talkquesaders been through the process of having the value revised?
I have asked my solicitor to look into this but I would like know how he missed it during the house purchase process.
Thanks for any solid advice (i.e. get a new solicitor is not helpful)

Revaluations are supposed to happen every 10 years, but are usually triggered when properties are sold, so you're right to question your solicitor.
When we bought our property, our solicitor identified that, although a second floor extension had the correct planning permission from the Town Hall, registration of the extra floor space had not been recorded at the Land Registry. This was corrected before completion and the associated fees, along with 4 years' of increased IBI (Council Tax) was paid by the vendor. Our house was originally built as a bungalow, but the property details we gave our solicitor showed a 2 storey house, so our solicitor spotted the difference as soon as she had obtained a copy of the Land Registry records showing the original build size.
On the other hand, when I inherited my parents' house and sold it 18 months ago, I discovered that work they had contracted to enclose an external staircase had been done without planning permission and, therefore, no Land Registry update. I don't know how the purchaser's solicitor became aware of the increased floor space - I assume the original Land Registry records showed the rear staircase as external. My solicitor arranged for this to be corrected before the sale was completed - and I've just received a bill for back taxes

Thanks Paul I know it is a legal minefield.
I remember seeing a headline on one of the local papers about a guy south of here who got caught for some change (glazing in his balcony?) who then went round spotting other changes and handed a dossier in for about 200 changes various neighbours had made.
