Paying taxes on line using a certificate

Paying taxes on line using a certificate

Postby CardinalBiggles » Mon Feb 24, 2020 4:28 pm

Hi all,

As I live in the UK I decided to pay for my non-resident tax online rather than pay for a solicitor to do it. Once you have the electronic certificate it’s easy enough to log in and check what you owe, etc. The problem is, I’m having real issues paying with my Bankinter debit card. I keep getting the message,

“La operacion no se ha podido realizar. Respuesta de la entidad financiera: Codigo[79] - NIF del firmante no titular de la Cuesta.”

Basically this is telling me that my NIE number is not associated with my bank account. I’ve talked to the bank and they assure me my NIE is correct on their records.

I was wondering if anyone has seen this problem before?

Cheers

Hi,

A friend of mine had the same problem, he was really worried about being fined for not making the payment in time. Multiple calls to Sabadell (one of them in person, when he flew over from the UK for 24 hours, only to be told he needed an appointment!), he tried, just on the off-chance, to pay with his NatWest debit card and it worked. Worth a go trying with your UK bank debit card......?

Good luck!

Thanks for the reply. I’m not sure I have that option because on the payment page you have to use a drop down menu with only Spanish banks as options. I can give it a try though.

Since posting the original problem I’ve since found out that the reason this happens is that as non-residents the bank is forced to track your identity using passport numbers rather than NIE numbers and the tax site tracks using NIE numbers. This is what causes the mis-match on the system. I’m now trying to investigate if there’s anything I can do through the tax people.
