Proposed removal of uk tax allowance

Proposed removal of uk tax allowance

Postby jake » Wed Aug 13, 2014 12:47 pm

Once again, this govt seems determined to ruin the lives of pensioners who have
spent their working lives contributing to the system.
They want to remove the basic tax allowance from those who are fiscal residents
in Spain and other places.
This could mean 4000 a year, or 80 pounds per week.
This is on top of the 200 cold weather allowance which has now gone.

These people had a 2 week holiday in Benidorm in august, and think it is always that hot.
Well it is not.
If you have a govt pension, you may be O.K. but if you have a private pension,
like G.E or B.T, or are renting property in the U.K. then you could be in trouble.
I am not a tax expert, but if you google: proposed tax allowance changes for
non u.k. residents, you may get more info.

This has not happened yet, but it is on the cards.

Regards
Jake

Surely you should be paying tax in Spain if you're a Spanish Resident. It's only Government Pensions that are taxed in the UK. That is if I read your piece correctly.

It will affect those renting out property in UK. It may also affect those on government pensions if the allowance is withdrawn. Private and the state pensions should be paid free of tax and declared in Spain if you are resident.
