I use spanishtaxforms.co.uk, it's very easy to enter the information online on their website, their communications are excellent and they are the cheapest I've found so far.

Oh I'm not sure, I've looked on their website and it mentions non-residents but I don't know whether they also do residents. You could drop them an email and ask.

They only do non-resident tax forms.
You need to go to a solicitor or gestor to get on the system before making your first tax declaration (which will be about April/May time next year).

Two firms which come with recommendations on here are Abaco advisers, based in Torrevieja, and there's another one on the corner by the Chop Shop (name escapes me at the moment).

You have plenty of time to shop around and get advice.

Hi
We have just filed out 1st tax return and done it through Lawyers in Quesada. Costing €80 for both of us. You could look at Jim Taylors guide on doing it yourself. In order to do this you need your electronic certificates..and we discovered that we paid tax in the UK on my husbands personal pension but had to pay tax on it in Spain as well. This is until the 1st payment for tax is paid (the tax due is split into 2 payments 1 in July and the 2nd in Novembet) but we cant claim the UK tax back until we have paid the 1st instalment and paid another €100 to the lawyers. I will definitely try to do it myself next year by using Jims guidance. Thia has been our experience. Hope it helps. Good luck

Has anyone had a problem with the Spanish tax system this year. Normally a British civil service pension is not taken into consideration when tax is calculated. This year, however, it has been added to the British state pension, the result being that from zero tax in previous years, I have been charged nearly 1000 euros. Comments please

Then the person doing your tax return has put the government pension in the wrong box on the return.
They have put it into taxable income instead of already taxed income.
Sorry, can't remember the number of the box which the government pension should be entered but it has happened to people several times.

Government service pensions paid to retired members of the fire service, police, civil servants, armed forces and local authorities are exempt from Spanish tax. Under the new treaty the amount of the pension is still exempt but must be included when calculating how much tax is due in Spain. This could have the effect of pushing any other income – perhaps from investments and rent – into a higher tax bracket meaning you’d have to pay more tax in Spain.
