I prefer no conversation as long as they are generally polite - It's not easy even with a little broken Spanish / English back and forth to have a proper conversation and personally think it is safer for the driver to concentrate on the road rather than trying to understand what's being said.

We had a registered Spanish taxi from the airport last year (booked in advance by email!) and he was a very pleasant driver but it was obvious he was trying to think of things to say in English and my husband was being polite too and talking to him in broken Spanish. Me being the nervous back-seat driver that I am was just thinking "please shut-up and concentrate on the driving!" So a non-speaking driver would suit me just fine.

Does he do the airport runs to Alicante?
Domingo does ANY taxi run whatsoever,if the pick up is within the jurisdiction,i.e.boundary,of the licence issued by the the municipal town hall. That is why a taxi has a number,4,3 or 7 whatever the number may be,as that corresponds to the number of the licence issued, therefore,if the taxi is seen outside of its jurisdictional area picking someone up,it can easily be reported instead of someone struggling to remember a registration plate.

Hi All,
Many thanks for all the info about the taxis.
It has meant that we are very reluctant to go to restaurants outside our taxi area which is a great shame as we know of many places that have been recommended to us. We can get there by taxi, but are we going to be stranded at the restaurant, or have we to wait a long time to get a taxi back? We know that our local taxi offers very reliable, prompt, & helpful service, so perhaps we stay in our taxi area.
What happened on our night out? 2 of our friends opted to not drink so they could drive everyone back from the restaurant, a very noble gesture. We had a great night out. It is nice to have such good friends, but it is a shame they had to do this because of the taxi regulations. Perhaps they should enlarge the areas to Torrevieja area, Elche area & Alicante area taxis. Surely that would solve the problem. What does everyone think??

Thanks once again,

Yes it would solve the problem, however, taxi licences are normally given with a very noble "backhand shake" gesture
