S1 and non-resident

S1 and non-resident

Postby TonTri » Thu Aug 24, 2017 11:39 pm

We are planning on "overwintering" in Spain in the coming years for about 5 1/2 months a year although our primary residence is in the UK, so non-resident in Spain. We rent the property out in the summer months and are paying quarterly Spanish taxes on the apartment.

We will be signing on the padron on our next visit in October and hope to get temporary SIP cards. But also by then my husband will be receiving his state pension (he currently has just under 2 months to go). So far we have only had short visits abroad and carry EHIC cards.

Does anyone know if:

a) you can get an S1 certificate if you are a non-resident or is it only for those permanently relocating and
b) if you can apply for an S1 just before you retire, he has already applied for and had acknowledgement of his pension? Or do we need to wait until he is actually drawing his pension?

Cheers Jpeg, they are our last resort. I just wondered if anyone on here had experienced the same thing.

I spoke with them yesterday and was informed to you have to be in receipt of a State Pension to obtain a S1. Then again, today you might get. Different answer.

Thanks TootandPloot. My husband turns 65 3 days before we fly out so he can ring them the day after his birthday and hopefully they will send the S1 to our apartment in Quesada .
