New phone and can't text.

i have purchased a new phone and now have a Spanish number. I am stuck with Movie star for 3 months unfortunately. I am unable to text my daughter or husband on their Uk phones. I have barely received any despite dozens being sent. I am charged a lot for texts mostly they just don't send and a couple which have been charged for haven't been received. Any advice please? I have prefixed +44

download whatsapp on both yours and daughters / husbands phone, as its a free message service. I use for all friends and family (UK & Spain / USA) and also work we have this on for all staff as free. You can also make calls, so as long as you have data / wi fi connections - good to go.

Text should be getting through, either in the manner you mention or 0044 - i'd still use whatsapp though as no sense sending texts as they cost & more so if international. It may be down to a setting in your phone stopping you sending international.

We all have what's app my husband has poor internet where he is in the UK. But can send texts ok. Thank you.

Internet makes no difference. Works on 3G or 4g. Obviously needs good signal. 3 or 4 bars is plenty.

Do make sure when you text to a U.K. Mobile 0044 before and leave the first digit zero off their phone number.

On newer phones you sometimes have to put a + instead of 00. For some strange reason they don't recognize 00. If it is an iPhone you may have to turn off iMessage to make regular messaging work.

Thank you all. I have tried +44 and number without the 0 very bizarre. I just use the what's app as it's probably a movie star issue.

It is their standard practice that for the first 3 months of your contract you can't call or text uk .....I had the same problem! After 3 months you have to go into Movistar and change your contract

to include uk calling and text. Come November I shall be looking for a better deal !
