Do the non Spanish owners have a say?
Do the non Spanish owners have a say?
by VivaEspana » Sun Nov 19, 2017 3:06 pm
Sorry, I wasn't sure how to put the heading, so here goes.
Do the non Spanish owners in Quesada have a voice when discussing matters that affect us? In particular, the Engish, as the rest may have their own committee already.
Where I'm from in the UK, the majority of residents are not from the UK they have been listened to since they started to move in, in the 70's. Then they were the minority, but are now officially the majority. The local council gave them a voice from day one, and now one of them is the mayor of the borough.
That's not what I want at all. I bought a place in Spain because I love Spain and the Spanish. However, I wondered if the non Spanish have a formal say at the Town Hall?
For example, if we want to be active in improving the area or we want to open up a discussion about live music and licenses with the Town Hall, do we have a committee that we can join?

I am led to believe that quasada is a urbanisation that comes under Rojales, and that means the majority of people in the area is Spanish, your C.P. is the same as Rojales ,your town hall is in Rojales.

I think you'll find some 71.5% of people living in the Rojales (inc Ciudad Quesada) area are foreign and not Spanish. Figures from the National Statistics Institute show there were 18,127 registered on the padron in 2016 of which 9,083 were Brits.
So, some 50% British. There are, believe it or not, some 70 different nationalities living in Rojales.

I think it's dependant on who bothers to vote in the local elections. In the UK, political parties couldn't wait to get on the good side of incoming minorities who probably valued their chance to vote.

Hello:
What you can do is to push English people to vote next time that we will vote in local elections. I think is so complicate to create a new politic group, so much easier to speak with the actual local politics groups to include more people fron another countries.
