Flight only insurance

Thank you Marcliff for your detailed explanation, it puts my mind at rest about health cover while back in the UK.

To put my queries into context, we are currently insured up until October and our maximum trip time is 60 days, we will be in Spain for 2 months Feb to Apr 2018 and again for 2 weeks at the end of June so that isnt a problem. However we are planning on staying in Spain from October 2018 to April 2019 and then again for a month in June 2019 so a total of over 200 days. We therefore intend to apply for an S1 form and Spanish residency come this October.

The main concerns I had were regarding cover in the UK (which you have answered) and cover for the flights only which I will check out nearer the time.

"British pensioners who are resident in the EU get NHS on visits to UK by dint of their S1. You don't get a Spanish EHIC equivalent because Spain does not pay for your healthcare, the UK does therefore they are responsible for issuing the EHIC which will be valid outside Spain (UK does not require the EHIC). "

Travel insurance update..
Just watched Rip off Britain a few minutes ago and heard a man explain that while travelling,he took ill. The airline refused to carry him as he did not have any travel insurance and they told him that if they had to land at a different airport in the event of his taking ill while onboard,it would cost £80,000 and as he did not have insurance to cover the cost,they were not prepared to carry him. Check it out on BBC iplayer. A warning to everyone.

Just found their customer services number, 0845 058 3000.
