Question re Laptops!!

Does anyone know the best way to use a laptop outside so that you can still see the screen without it being made almost invisible by the sun? (Similar to how a Kindle Paper White performs)

Sit under a brolly.
You can increase the brightness of the screen but it means your battery life will be seriously diminished.
Get a laptop "hood".

As all laptops now use a gloss screen as opposed to a matte one (they were expensive and easily damaged) it's difficult to cut down glare.

The Kindle Paperwhite works outdoors because it has a screen that’s specifically designed to function that way whilst using little or no battery power.
The downside to the Paperwhite screen is that it’s high contract black and white and it takes around 1 second to refresh the image on the screen.
Laptops have screens that can be refreshed around 60 times per second and can display millions of colours. Of course the down side is that they aren’t as good in direct sunlight and use much more battery power.
It’s horses for courses, and very easy for the Kindle when it has just one role in life.

You’ll find that good quality tablets tend to perform better in sunlight than laptops, and it’s a bit easier to move the tablet around to reduce the glare, but you’ll never get the same readability in sunlight that you do with the Kindle.
