Postby margo » Thu Mar 15, 2018 12:15 am

Hi All. Been looking at Callosa de segura area. As it appears to be predominately spanish town has anyone any personal experience of visiting or staying there i.e. is english spoken in shops etc. Is there a british expat community there or nearby for socialising etc. Any info would be appreciated.
Cheers

Yes there are many expat there,,, although Callosa itself is very Spanish ,,, well it is Spain !!

But,

Just a across the road is Catral which is very English,,,

And if you are looking at Callosa, My friend has just brought a beautiful villa right on the edge of Callosa and they love it ( 280m house will 2 acres and pool ) ,,, they were searching for 2 years before they discovered the area.

Their words: Living in real Spain with little Britain just around the corner, best of both worlds

One of the neighbors is selling their villa. What sort of property are you looking for, I will send you their details.

When buying a property in an area like this if you pay a deposit make sure in the deposit contract it says that if you later find out the property is not fully legal and you want to pull out you get your deposit back!. They usually just say if you pull out you loose your deposit and people have been caught out with this in the past insist to your solicitor puts this in the contract.

Thank you qwerty good to know about expats and catral. Saw on map they were close but didnt realise catral was so english. We are looking for a two bed two bathroom property and have see one we like on internet so gonna look at that soon.

Thanks scubyoo didnt know that about deposit. Always useful to know these things in advance. Done a lot of research but was concerned that my spanish is very basic. Glad to know there are english expats in area. We love quesada really but property prices rising fast and we havent what we want there so clock ticking for brexit and permanent move.

Well said scubydoo,,,

Make sure you use a good lawyer and get them to hold your deposit in 'esco', the lawyer will hopefully also hold a retention of about 3%, also if the property is not fully legal the lawyer will find this out for you.

There is nothing wrong in buying a so called illegal house, it just the banks wont lend on the illegal part of the house, even if the fine and taxes are paid, also you will find if the house is a country property and built on rustic land of less than 10,000m2 the local town hall will now call it a community plot and group houses together, this is quit common in catral

All the above said with a pinch of salt !!! If you need a good recommended Lawyer, no problem

Good luck Margo
