Home insurance

Home insurance

Postby D4RN-L » Mon Apr 30, 2018 10:36 am

Good morning Guys
My wife and I take ownership of our Villa at the end of July and I’m in the process of getting everything in place.
For the first 5 or 6 years this will simply be a holiday and ‘working from home’ place until we can retire early and move out lock stock and barrel. We will not rent out at any time and won’t be taking a mortgage on it.
In terms of home insurance, I guess it’s the same as UK with buildings and contents but are there any tips, pitfalls or recommended insurers or websites to visit or avoid?

Thanks all

Shop around for quotes , if you have a mortage the bank will try to insist that you take their policy , don't as they are very expensive for the cover offered ..!!

If you are on Community, ask the President if they have a group insurance discount scheme, quite a few do . . otherwise as above Gran Alacant Brokers are good and I think they use Liberty Seguros as Insurers who are quite a bit cheaper than say, Mapfre.
Bear in mind that Kitchen fittings (worktops/ovens etc.) are counted as Contents in Spain unlike in the UK.

Cheap is not always best. I learned this the hard way. Saving a few quid is ok until you make a claim. We now have our insurance with our bank and for a few euros more have an all singing all dancing, no questions asked new for old policy and peace of mind.

Hi we use Ibex in Quesada , to keep your insurance down all windows and doors need grills and window locks ,, if you have a private pool ensure this is also covered .
Best Regards
