Removal of Smart meter for holiday homes not consuming energy

I have been told that Iberdrola have a policy of removing Smart meters from holiday homes not consuming energy with the result that owners face a connection charge upon their return. So I asked Iberdrola customer services who advised that :-

“As long as you pay your invoices and everything its correct on your contract we don’t going to remove the meter.
We only finish the energy supply if the holder reacquire or if there is invoices unpaid.”

Which seems entirely sensible to me.
BUT is this consistent with the experience of other Talk Quesada members?

Iberdrola would normally remove the meter if several bills are not paid. That`s a last resort though. They would just turn the power off at first.

If as you say they will remove it at the owners request, then of course the owner should expect to pay a re-connection charge.

As long as you pay the standing orders they will not remove them, if your bank account gets frozen because you have not provided all up to date information then it could be a possibility but if you pay no problem just make sure you are up to date and have sufficient funds for bills and taxes etc.

Slightly off topic a bit .. Some people don`t realise how expensive it is just using their holiday home for a few weeks a year and are quite shocked.

The standing charges for water and and electric alone are quite high, then you may have community fees, Suma etc.

So as scubydoo said, make sure you have enough funds in your bank.
