With apologies if this is outside the remit of this forum:

We have lived in Quesada for many years, and we love the place. However we are now thinking of buying a static caravan/mobile home/chalet over in the UK to use as a base for occasional visits. We have done a lot of caravanning over the years, but never taken this step.

Has anyone done this, and if so would you be prepared to offer any advice? Any tips, pitfalls, etc?

We don't mind which area we eventually buy in, though the Welsh Marches is probably as far north as we would want to go from the ferry ports.

Thanks in advance

Hi we had one and sold it as the cost of keeping it as we were not regular visitors also we spent most of the time back cleaning and tidying up around it! if they offer full maintenance it may be worth it but also beware that some sites want you to change them every 10 years costing a fortune.

its ok if you have pots of money, the site fees alone are like having a mortgage!for the cost of a mobile home you can get a small terrace somewhere if its only a uk address you require, as for the mobile home some you can only stay 10mnths of the year,

I wouldn't go that route. They are not cheap, as already said the site fees can be a fair amount per year and they depreciate in value, would a studio flat or 1 bedroom flat not be better. Lock it up and leave?

Singer,
We have owned two mobile homes in the UK, you can't own one on a official site without producing evidence of a UK address,e.g recent utility bill or council tax bill.

Thanks everyone for the replies, they are really appreciated. Most people seem to be saying think hard about this before you jump in. We will.

Wilkieboy I will pm you.

Just a thought.....

You can buy lovely static vans on Bourne Leisure sites such as Devon Cliffs near Exmouth, this would not only give you a UK base but also a income when you are not using it as Bourne will supply and manage rentals on your behalf.

Have a nice day people.

Thanks again for the last two comments. We will think about that site near Exmouth, and have just had a look at the link from Chrisdee. More food for thought!
