Buying a used car in Germany and re registering in Spain

Postby George-g » Thu Aug 09, 2018 5:19 pm

Would it be more cost effective to purchase a used car in Germany for instance and then re register in Spain. I know buying in Germany you would get more for your money with probably less mileage etc. Looking at different options as I don't want to pay over the odds for a high mileage car.

Thanks George

Thank for that. A friend of the family lives in Germany over 20 years. Would ask him to source the car etc.
Thanks

I would be interested to hear how you get on with this. I am thinking of importing vehicles into Spain given the high cost of s/h cars there and want to learn my way around the bureaucracy, legal requirements, tax etc. I appreciate from the start it will be littered with hurdles but feel that once you learn the path a few times to repeat the process will be far less cumbersome. Moving to a further extreme (given it will be non-EU specification), I would like to get to a stage where I could import cars from both the USA and also the GCC region.

In the process of dong something similar with one from Holland . Involve a professional believe me it’s with the fee they charge. Don’t leave it until you actually want it, to drive as it does seem to take time to complete!

I was told you had to have the vehicle for six months in your name before you can reregister it.So could be a minefield of beaurocracy,a ball park figure is a a grand but subject to emissions, and value ( by Spanish)

Once, I considered buying a car while in Munich and driving it to Spain. When I worked out the cost of the paperwork, the fuel, tolls and hotels it didn’t seem worth it, unless maybe you want a top of the range model.
