Recommendations please - replace bath

Recommendations please - replace bath

Postby Gmaster5 » Fri Sep 07, 2018 1:24 pm

Hi all,

Really need to replace our bath, it’s the original and getting rusty.
We want another bath put back in.
We’ve just paid for it to be repaired and it looks worse now than it did!
Any recommendations for good reliable builders would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Don De are really good at things like this. Excellent workmanship and we are very happy with the walk in shower we had to replace the bath and the bidet. (not that we use the shower as a bidet, you understand).

Yes, they did match the tiles for both the floor and the walls. The builder took photographs of the existing one and then took 2 weeks to source an exact match.
They removed the bath and bidet and then retiled the floors and the marble tiles where the bath and bidet had been.
Large, non slip shower tray, large shower cubicle (3 section including door) with column shower (one of those that pours down from the top, has two shooting out the front and a hand held shower). Also had a large electric towel rail fitted.

The workmen were brilliant. Cleaned up after themselves each day, started on the Monday and were finished by the Thursday. When they took the bath out, the marble tiles above where the bath had been slipped down and they complained they hadn't be fixed with the proper marble adhesive, just tile adhesive.
Ended up completely retiling both the walls above the bath and didn't charge any extra.
Altogether, including builder who was extremely professional, just over 2000 euro. We could have got the towel rail and column shower cheaper from Leroy Merlin but the fitting cost would have put it about the same price and these are top of the range items.
We had the builders and tilers, two plumbers, 2 fitters and an electrician. Workers even wiped down the doors to clean their fingerprints. Plus some old guy who just came in and sealed the shower cubicle with anti-mould adhesive and gave me a full tube which he said I need doing every 2 or 3 years.
Lady in Don De was extremely helpful and didn't try to push the expensive bits on us, even advising us not to get one decorated screen for another 400 euro as they were difficult to clean.

Nicely descriptive and helpful to all.

Did they take the old floor tiles up & take the wall tiles off or did they tile over them?

Two walls re-tiled completely as the old ones had started to slip off. Only used about 10 marble tiles.
Floor tiles put new ones in the gaps and replaced the ones that had been cut to fit around the bath. About 8 new tiles.
