Can anyone tell me what is up with this Orange tree?

Can anyone tell me what is up with this Orange tree?

Postby Roach » Wed Sep 19, 2018 4:25 pm

A lot of the fruit are splitting open before they have even ripened. Is it because of a lack of water, or maybe some disease or perhaps a nutritional deficiency?

Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi
I just Googled it and this came up. I would say it's over-watered:

Reading through that article - Now I know why my lemon tree is so productive with good fruit. I hardly ever water it. Don't even own a watering can or hose. I sonetimes give it a bit of water once a year (literally) the rest of the year it looks after itself or the weather looks after it.

Has anyone planted dwarf lemon/orange trees earlier this year, not in pots, and how did they do throughout this past summer. Heard mine have died,

Our mandarin tree gets split fruit like this every year for past 3 years. Have read it can be an issue for younger trees as their roots can't deal with too much water. All our other mature citrus trees absolutely OK. They are all on same irrigation cycle. Just hoping it improves with age....

I did read a while ago that citrus trees don't need much water for best results. Maybe that was on here? The tree itself is productive but many oranges are splitting. It's hard to tell if it's down to too much water or not enough. Hopefully the whole crop won't be spoiled as they ripen.

I was told with mine a few year ago, that it was too much water in one go, it was a year like this, when we had thunder and storms, so they did get drought, then A LOT OF RAIN, in one go!! But never spoilt all the oranges, just a few, after a while they returned to normal.

Sadly agree, its happened due to the storms and excess water that came with them. Our orange tree is the same and started splitting a couple of days after the first storm a couple of weeks ago.
