We've been on it for a couple of years now, Matt did it for us when no-one else seemed to know anything about it! Definately go to see Matt at One Way Services.

I'd be grateful to all of you for your opinions please: why did you choose to join the Convenio Especial?

Our private health insurance is due for renewal at the end of the year. I anticipate the renewal will be around Eu 1,700 for my wife and I, versus Eu 1,440 if we join the C.E., but from talking to others, I think it's more than just a question of cost: our Spanish Tax Advisor recommended joining the C.E., whereas our Spanish lawyer said to stick with private. Just wondering what your thought processes were and what swung it for you in opting for the C.E.?

This seems to be something of a grey area, at least as far as the various autonomous regions are interpreting it. Apparently Andalucia has abolished the convenio especial and granted universal free health care.

Other regions appear to be interpreting it as applying to unregistered (illegal) immigrants. I've been waiting and searching for a definitive answer on Valencia's stance but there is a lot of conflicting opinion around online.
