Blue Parking Permit

Blue Parking Permit

Postby Glassfull » Wed Nov 21, 2018 8:46 pm

My wife and I have our appointment for Residencia coming up early next Monday month and we’re going with our S1s.

My wife is in possession of a Blue Parking Permit, issued in the UK, which is due to expire in September 2019. In the past, renewal was fairly straightforward but, obviously, we need to apply for a permit issued in Spain.

Can anyone tell me the application process in Spain?

My wife had one for UK which ran out. We asked the doctor if we could renew it but she doesn't have a recognised disability, just trouble in walking some distances.

Here, you must have a recognised disability that prevents you from using public transport.
The doctor doesn't refer you. You have to ask at the town hall and social services will issue a form called
a Solicitud de Reconocimiento de la Condition de la Minusvalida (an application form for the disability) to be recognised by the regional authorities.

You have to attend an assessment in Alicante.
Parking restrictions will still apply and you can't park on yellow lines and have to pay at blue parking bays (not the disabled ones) and ensure that the disabled sign doesn't have a registration number underneath as that is reserved for that particular vehicle.
We didn't bother in the end. I just try and park a bit closer to where we are going.

Thank you Marcliff. I think, after reading of your experience, we’ve come to the same conclusion.

But for this damned Brexit, we might have held off Residencia until after renewal of the Blue Badge. However needs must, now that idiocy has free rein over our future!!!!!!

You can get a blue badge as described above. If you have a specialist report stating the disability of your wife take it to the Town Hall Social Services Department with your Padron and Residencia. However, at present they are taking a long long time to sort all these blue badges out - think they are waiting until after Brexit, but it is better to get it started as there seems to be a backlog. Depends where you live on how quickly it is dealt with, Benijofar used to be very quick, Torrevieja seems to take years!!! If you have a genuine disability you will eventually get one. Good luck,

folks might realize now how the UK was good and easy for such as parking permits etc even if realy needed, only yourselfs will know, in spain they seem to be more stringent in there checks,to make sure you really really need it .which is a good thing as it does not leave the system open to exploitation,to do things by the book in spain is,nt easy, unless of course you speak the language and know the system.

I got one for my husband about 5 years ago, After going to social servicesd, it too 18 months before we recieved the badge.
The doctor had to see all the hospital reports and also carried out his own assessment after which we got a card stating that my husband is 60% disabled. You do not get a blue badge in Spain for minor disability.
