Does anyone know the regulations regarding a flue on the outside of a building , particularly the permitted height and annoyance from the smoke ?

I am sure someone will correct if not right but I seem to recall when we had ours fitted the top of the flue had to be above the roof line..our stainless steel flue was pretty long as we lived in a Jasmine style..very high back& the roof sloping down to the front..Our flue came out of the side of the house hence it being long to be just above the roof line...Hope this helps

Normally it’s 1 metre above the height of the roof of your house. But if you want to avoid a huge, unsightly pipe, buy a pellet burner. Really efficient, clean, does the same job and you only need to vent it straight out the wall with minimum piping because it’s virtually smoke free.

You have to start it up about 2 hours before you want the heat!

there is some building regs regarding chimney heights ,the reason is to allow the smoke to escape, and the roof if pitched can cause up and down draughts which will help the fire to draw, or blowback.the best fabricated chimney is Selkirk twin wall,or equivelent ,look up on net and read for more info,
