WANTED Engineer Genius

WANTED Engineer Genius

Postby LA MARINA LADY » Sun Jan 20, 2019 9:42 am

Please can someone who is happy to tinker about in an engineering capacity and has time on his hands. My mobility scooter is broken and local mobility shops cannot help as it needs patience and time spent on it which the repair shops don't have.
Maybe someone who is retired and cleaver usually at anything mechanical can help me.
.The scooter is battery driven and has two new batteries which fully charge up but only gives me a little time before it slowly dies on me. I have the manual but that hasn't helped I am in no hurry for it to be fixed but have spent a lot of money on it new tyres etc so cannot sell it, not that I want to. Maybe the engine wants stripping down I don't know, so please if anyone who likes a challenge would have a look at it I should be very grateful. The manufacturers don't want to know about it and are based in USA.

Sound as if the charger may be the suspect part. Check the output jpeg...
Kind regards

I think the battery is the problem. With a voltage tester I would check how is the battery before you charge it and after you use.

Send me a PM and tell me your address.
Regards.

Lithium batteries don’t last forever, they will charge up but die very quickly.

El Tel is right the batteries only have a limited life , sounds like that’s the problem to me.

Just because new batteries have been fitted doesn’t mean that the batteries are good, or that they’ve been fitted correctly.
The wrong type of batteries may have been used (either wrong capacity or wrong chemistry), or the charging corcutry may be faulty, which could in turn have damaged the batteries.

It’s possible that one of the motors is faulty, or that the gearbox mechanisms or other mechanical components such as bearings are seizing-up and causing too much friction, or that the brakes are binding.
However, my first thought would be to do a load test on the batteries and see what that shows.

I’d say that the OP should take-up Jpeg’s offer to look it over. I’m sure he’ll be able to identify the problem and most likely fix it as well.

Pete.

Would agree with most of what has been said, but especially about asking jpeg. He's a good man.
