Driving from Bilbao to Quesada

Driving from Bilbao to Quesada

Postby Mansfieldc » Sun Jan 20, 2019 3:33 pm

Can anyone recommend a good easy to read road map that I can use please from ferry at Bilbao through down to Quesada. I would like to go around Madrid rather than through the city. Many thanks

Put the route in viamichelin.com. It will give you a map and a detailed itinerary of the route.
Bilbao to Burgos, Burgos to Madrid (round the ring road and a 2.10 toll), Madrid to Albacete, Albecete to Elche and Elche to Quesada.
Wide open and empty motorways except around those big towns and should take about 8 and half hours with a comfort stop and a refuelling stop.

Many thanks Marcliff for that. I have seen that route mentioned before.
I’ll try viamichelin defiantly.

I have used this route 4 timess a year for 14 years and have never had a hold up due to traffic. I always start about 8 am. 26 Euros total tolls using the route Marcliff suggested. Easy 8.5 hour trip including fuel and comfort stop just north of Madrid.

Totally agree with marcliff. We do that route a few times every year. Off the boat at Bilbao before 8.30am and home at Benimar by tea time. Then out for a quick meal and a few drinks.

A relaxing trip on good roads and a nice end to the day. Unpacking tomorrow

Thanks all for your comments. Unfortunately we don't dock until 12.45 which means travelling the 'unknown' fairly late. As we are staying in a rented property and need to collect the house keys from one of the neighbours, we were thinking of stopping over in a small hotel about half way and then setting off for the final 3 or 4 hours drive next day. I think we would prefer to drive in daylight and not feel too rushed trying to get to the property.

If you are not in a rush,or if you are tight, like me,you could avoid some of the tolls.Leave the motorway at Miranda and use the N1 to Burgos will save you a few euros.Similarly if you use the M50 around Madrid ignore any sign that says "peage."Pass the A3 Valencia and take the next exit toll free to Valencia.Using national roads gives you the choice of numerous stops for people or vehicles.

Hi Big Wheeler when we arrived out here 7 years ago we drove from Bilbao Zaragoza then on to Valencia where we stopped overnight in a local hotel that can be seen off the motorway on the right & easy to find it gave us time to have a look around Valencia as we took our time avoiding the tolls, Like you we had to collect keyes for our property before 4pm. Our boat left Southampton at 8pm & sailed overnight to Roscoff in France to allow people to get off & on then sailed all day & night arriving in Bilbao at 7-30AM may i suggest you try & get your ferry times changed i cant see it being a problem at this time of the year That way it allows to travel in comfort & you get 2 nights on the boat & can then travel in daylight to your accomodation in Valencia for a break with a 4 hour run to Quesada the next day. Welcome to the land of eternal Sunshine. Cheers Doug & Fay.
