Corner bath
Corner bath
by alicia32 » Tue Feb 12, 2019 3:34 pm
We have a large corner bath typical of Lola and Fortuna town houses. Has anyone had their corner bath replaced with a walk in shower? If so can they give me an idea on price and any recommendations for carrying out the work. Thanks.

We did with Don De. Excellent service and quality. I think the whole thing was about €2800 and that included removing the bath, replacing floor tiles and wall marble tiles to match. Large, non slip flooring with glass panels and column shower (wonderful, water squirts at you from all over the place) and an electric towel rail fitted.
Also removal of the bidet and covering for hole in the floor and the wall where the taps were.
The lady was excellent and advised us against the more expensive decorated glass as she said it was hard to clean properly.
Workmen came in to prepare and replace tiles etc and were excellent and cleaned up as they went along.
When they took the bath out, the marble tiles fitted by Euromarina sort of fell off due to the wrong adhesive being used. The ended up re-tiling two whole walls.
Couldn't fault the workmanship.
The contracted builder comes along first and tells you what needs to be done, what you want and prices that up. Then add it to the Don De charge. They started on the Monday and, after leaving adhesives and plaster to dry, were fully finished by Thursday and we could use the shower from Friday. Luckily we have a walk in shower in the downstairs loo.

We have a Fortuna and we had the bath removed.
When entering an original Fortuna Bathroom, the vanity unit is just inside the door in a 1200x900 recess. This is where we had a shower tray and glass screen fitted. The area where the bath was now has a floating vanity unit. The increase in space is phenomenal.
We did need to position the light switch from inside the bathroom to outside and the plumbing, feeds and waste and power needed re-siting too. All tiles, floor and walls were removed
Kosta Kitchens undertook the work and supplied the tray, screen, vanity, cupboard and taps, mirror and materials excluding tiles.
The work was carried out in November 2016 at a cost of, just over €4K. The tiles were sourced from Preyser and were circa €400. Had the tiles been porcelain, Kosta’s price would have been marginally higher due do using a more expensive adhesive.
All rubbish was loaded onto a trailer and taken away daily so, no unsightly bath etc., parked by bins like cheapskate builders like to do.
The work took 7 days.
Hope that helps

We live in a Lola house too and used Don De. Maybe not the cheapest but we were very impressed with the quality of workmanship and customer service. We had one Project Manager to liase with and she co-ordinated everything.
