Pound at dizzy heights against euro

Hopefully getting better.

1.08 in the supermarket today for cash

€1.1517 now with TransferWise

€1.24 prebrexit
€1.40 when I moved to Spain

we got 1.5108 when we bought an apartment in Formentera around 2005. this number will be imprinted on my mind forever!!! imagine how much dosh we would have to spare it it reached this height again.....

The best it has ever been against the euro is 1.7371. October 27th 2000.

And the worst 1.02 in 2008. Currencies fluctuate, it's something you have to live with when you choose to live abroad.

We were here before that and I don't remember it being that high

It was only a virtual currency then, though. Banks had started using it but it was not available to the public until 2002 when notes and coins were finally issued.
The rate at which the pound came in at was 1.59 to the euro but dropped to 1.42 after the first 2 years which was the rate it started at when the euro started being traded in 1999 (but not used by the public).
