Insurance not transferable!

The car is insured in Spain on most policies such as mine, not individual drivers like in the UK. After 27 years and my wife being working in a Gestoria I would say after just consulting her that you are wrong.You simply make the date of official transfer with Traffico the date the insurance expires and have your ordinary legally binding receipt of purchase as the day the driver collects vehicle.

So you are suggesting that you don't tell Trafico of the transfer until the day the insurance expires... sounds dodgy to me!
What about the rule that says you must inform Jafatura de Trafico within 10 days of the sale and what about any traffic fines the new owner may incur before the insurance expires? Are you simply going to show the authorities the sales receipt YOU created when you sold the vehicle (any date could be written as you made it) and that be your defense?
I also wonder what date would be put on the CONTRATO DE COMPRA-VENTA (sales contract) which needs to be sent to Trafico, and all this time the new owner has no official documentation for the vehicle to show ownership.
Good luck with that then, much easier to do it by the book.

Also explain when people here say the car has to be insured for an ITV. This is also untrue.

And also people say you cannot insure a UK car in Spain. This is also untrue.

Is that the same book ( that doesn't exist ) that says you have to have 4 tyres the same brand ( unscrupulous garages have been telling us Brits this rubbish for years in order to maximize their tyre sale ) more rubbish.

And is it the same book that says if your car MOT has run out a couple of days you are not insured. More rubbish.

All I am saying to you is that it is common practice here in Spain. In the Gestoria she works in it is done at least half a dozen times a week and it has been in business for over 30 years. I think that what is ok for the Spanish should be ok for the English. No?
