Driving in Spain

Driving in Spain

Postby PeteB » Sat Mar 30, 2019 9:53 am

Hi everyone

I am in the process of buying a car, and wanted to know what I will need to drive legally after the 12th of April (date subject to change) say no more.

I have read that we may need an International Driving Permit (1949), if so, is there anyway of getting one of these in Spain?

Finally what are you all doing?

Thanks in advance for your help.

You have to get these at a Post Office n the UK. I believe they last for a year.

Most residents have, or are, converting their UK license to Spanish

Pete if you have the A4 green paper for your NIE and have lived in Spain legally for more than 5 years then you have Permanent Residency.

If you need an International Driving Licence someone else can apply for it at a Post Office in UK

You have to turn up in person at a Post Office in UK to get an IDP.
However, don't panic as nobody yet knows if we'll need on or not.

IDP applications at post offices MUST be done in person.

What you need when applying

Full valid UK driving licence - photocard or an older paper licence
A passport standard photograph - a recent true likeness of the applicant (see FAQs)
The £5.50 application fee (cash or debit / credit card)
Original valid passport as proof of identification, if presenting an older paper version licence

Note: not all post offices offer the service.

You are also supposed to be UK resident BTW.
