Postby kevin07 » Wed Apr 03, 2019 11:30 am

Just to let everyone know that i no longer have my Spanish number Vodafone have decided to take it back because i have not put credit on the phone for 6 months and did not need to i only had the number for 20 yrs so be aware if you dont put credit on a Spanish mobile for this period you loose the number, its a bit like the time my friend had a bank account in Albir went to the machine to draw out some money and found there was none in the account so he went to the bank the next day to ask why there was no money in the account there reply was as you have not used the account for a while we decided to close the account and take the money GOOD OLD SPAIN.

Eventually he got his money back it was not bank charges this would never happen in the UK regarding the phone having lived in Spain for twenty years it was not always that way taking your number i have a friend who runs a shop in Albir and a stall in the indoor Benidorm market both agree it is something that has been implemented over the last few years.

It happened to us at least 10 -12 years ago and some providers its less than 6 months. These days most people have monthly contracts.

I think you'll find PAYG credit runs out in UK after 6 months as well. In fact, some companies only allow 120 days before it is cancelled if you don't top it up. Vodafone UK actually allows 270 days before it is cancelled but Tesco, O2, Virgin Mobile etc will cancel it if it isn't topped up after 180 days.

My movistar one here was cancelled after not topping it up and that was about 12 years ago as well. I ensure my Llamaya phone gets a top up of 5 euro every now and again to stop it happening.

Picked up a 3 PAYG SIM in UK and it has the promise that it never expires so I'll see how that goes.

Yes I had it happen twice, I had two separate phones, one for here, and one in England pay as you go,, it was about 10to 12years ago, both the Spanish one and the English one took my money had about 20pound on the English one, and 20euro on the Spanish one,, but hadn't used!! So the worst thing was both numbers were stopped also,, so no contact!! So annoying

The pool of numbers available for PAYG or prepay is finite so dormant ones need to be claimed back for reuse.

It's not uncommon to receive calls on what for you is a new PAYG number but which somebody still has as a contact for a previous user.

We bought a PAYG sim from the Orange shop in Habaneras as they allow 12 months between each top up. That suits us nicely as we don't use it often.
