What's the best way to remove grout of newly laid floor tile

What's the best way to remove grout of newly laid floor tile

Postby Roach » Sun Apr 07, 2019 1:22 pm

s?

The tiles are not glazed and are like a slate effect so they have many grooves and ridges for the grout to stick into. I don't want to spend the next 3 years scrubbing the floor to get it off. Can anyone recommend a product or method to easily get it off without damaging the tiles? Thanks in advance.

You can try industrial strength vinegar available from the cleaning products section in Mercadona. We have used it on some new outside non slip tiles and it does work. Use it neat and then wash off with clean water after letting it soak for a few minutes. Cost's less than 1 euro.

Thanks Trevor i'll give that a go. I had already used distilled white vinegar and although it did get some of it off, there is still quite a bit left. So is this industrial stuff a stonger % than the usual 5% vinegar then?

Agua Fuerte will remove grout staining, but be sure not to get it into the joints.

have you tried just a simple sponge scourer, the sort of thing used in your kitchen maybe, its a sponge with a scourer pad on the other side. can be bought in packs of about 6 for just a euro in supermarkets. when ive cleaned up tiles, for me they work great, small bucket of water next to you use, and a dry or damp cloth to wipe away as you move along to see if you've got it all. you can simply direct your work to the area you want to rub down or remove. it does mean time spent on your hands and knees though, working slowly across each tile. just a suggestion, it all depends on your personal requirements though. good luck.

Grouting is cement-based, so I would be surprised if scouring will work. There is a product - brick cleaner - which is designed to remove cement-based materials, and this could well be just what you need. It is acid-based, so be careful, and test a small area of your slate floor first. I am not a builder but a keen diy-er. However this worked amazingly when I had to remove set mortar from quarry tiles. Never bought it in Spain but I know it is readily available in the UK, so I would guess good DIY stores over here would stock it. Hope this helps.

Agua Fuerte is what builders in Spain use . . . use it diluted and grout stains or any calcium stains (say, around a pool) will be gone. Make sure you flush it away with plenty of water afterwards.
The larger Chinos stock it . .

take it off gently with sandpaper ,grout is softer than the glaze on the tile then use a sponge scourer and water
