Easter parades

Easter parades

Postby Martin the artist » Tue Apr 09, 2019 8:11 am

All parades usually go over the old bridge but it looks like it won't be open, so the various companies have been looking at alternative routes.

14 April - Palm Sunday procession 11.30 from area below the crosses to the church
(The palms will be on sale in Rojales market on Thiursday.)

14 April - Mantilla procession 8pm circular route from the church

15 April - Flagelation procession 9.30pm circular route from the church

17 April - General procession 10pm circular route from the church

18 April - Silent procession 10pm from the church.
The town centre is blacked out for this and a special foghorn can be heard giving an eerie feel.
18 April - procession to the crosses at midnight with re-enactment of the crucifixion and overnight vigil

19 April - Good Friday procession of all saints 7pm from the church with all the companies & floats taking part

21 April Easter Sunday 11.30am in the town centre reenactment of the resurrection

Sounds simple but what is this ‘circular’ route
There’s limited routes across the river only two separate foot bridges and two road bridges
Which ones are to be used ?

As I said they are looking at alternative routes. They will obviously have to use the 'new' bridge as the floats would not go over the footbridges, and the route is usually round the old part of the town near the base of crosses etc, but they have not declared what they'll do.

The townhall have just released the new routes for the Easter parades as below.
I think it is self explanatory with a map, so won't bother translating.

I would love to take the family to see the Parade in Rojales today but we are new in town and don’t know where to go. I know where the car park is where they hold the market on a Thursday and intend to park there. Where do we walk to find the parade? I know the bridge nearby but assume this is the one that is closed. Where is the church, or will we hear the bells tolling to let us know.

Thanks in advance Martin.

I attach map I created for another occasion, but shows the end of the car park and 'new' bridge (puente Reina Sofia).
The parade this morning will finish by coming down the street beside the triangular building at the bottom centre of map and into the Calle cel Malecon del Soto by the children's park, then over the 'new' bridge before turning towards the church where it will finish.
So possibly good places to see it are Malecon del Soto or the bridge?
