We adopted our Eddie from SATS in Dolores. He was a stray that turned up at the shelter one day, so when SATS took him in they had him microchipped, castrated, vaccinated against rabies, heart worm, etc. and perhaps most importantly of all, they had him tested for Leishmaniasis, which some shelters don't do and won't tell you unless you specifically ask. Fortunately, Eddie tested negative for Leish and a vaccine has since been developed, although it is only around 80% effective, so it needs to be combined with a collar, such as Seresto, to provide the best protection. SATS also obtained a Pet Passport for Eddie. I think they're an excellent, conscientious animal shelter.
