Freesat box

Freesat box

Postby Jasper » Fri Apr 19, 2019 3:16 pm

I have a G I freesat box, and recently have lost quite a few channels. I've done a rescan on 28A, but no difference. So my question is, can I scan another satellite as well or is a new box in order
I have thought about a Humax with recording facility. Thanks

You can only scan the satellite your dish is pointed too..maybe the recent winds have move the dish and it needs realigning

We use Astra 2E/2F/2G 28.2E. we recently got a new box and rescanned, i notice we had lost Dmax and a couple of others like Talking Pictures, but gained Sony Crime and two more CBS channels

First of all, you almost certainly don't have a FreeSat box. You have GI box that's being used without a card to access the UK Free to Air channels.
FreeSat is a trademark of the FreeSat company, and they licence certain manufacturers (Humax, Bush, Grundig etc) to manufacture receivers to their specification. All genuine FreeSat boxes will have the FreeSat logo on then and will require you to enter a UK postcode as part of the setup process, so that you get the correct regional programs.
The FreeSat user Interface/EPG is much nicer that anything you will get with a GI or similar Chinese box.

If you've lost channels then the chances are that one (or more) of the following has happened:

1) There's something living in the horn of your LNB
2) The dish has moved as a result of strong winds
3) The LNB is out of position
4) The LNB is failing - possibly as a result of water ingress
5) The cabling is failing - usually as a result of exposure to the sun.

Thanks for the info Pete. We are going to the UK next month to sell up, so will buy a Humax. If I put my postcode in over there, will it work over here? Thanks

BUT once you've put your UK post code into a Humax box (at least this is true of the one I've got) - you can't change later it to get channels from a different UK region. Similar thing applied to WiFi - once you've put your WiFi password in - you can't switch the WiFi connection off.

Be careful not to do something you'll regret later !

Yes you can. Simply set up from the beginning again and it'll ask for a postcode which you can change.
