How does the Car insurance work
i have been told its the car that is insured not the person, is this true and how do the insurance prices compare to the uk.
At the moment we have a property and hire when we come over but hopefully soon it will become more permanent. Another thing we are not sure of, do we buy second hand around 3 years old or do we buy new.

Yes your car is insured for anyone over the age of 25.
As for buying a car.
Second hand cars in Spain are expensive in comparison to uk.
If you can afford it then I would buy a new car

Insurance is comparable, and good value given the fact that the car is insured, so friends or family can use the vehicle.
Depends what you're after. If you're happy with a cheap runaround, then you can pick up brand new Dacia for as little as around €7000.
Otherwise, you could be looking at the same amount for a higher spec car with quite a few thousand KM on the clock.

The vast majority of car insurances also include breakdown cover . . .I have found prices to be comparable to UK and you get a certain amount of No Claims discount from your UK insurance too, but not as much as if it was earned in Spain.
